Kochi: National Blood Donation day was observed at Al Azhar Teachers Training College in Thodupuzha on Tuesday.
Thodupuzha municipal vice chairperson Jessy Antony inaugurated the event orgasnised by among others Al Azhar group of institutions.
P A Saleem Kutty former Thoudupuzha member of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology presided.
Al Azhar B.Ed college principal Jabeemol C Maitheen delivered the welcome address. Al Azhar College group of institutions dean Somasekharan was chief guest.
Blood donors Shaji E S and Sabeesh A M were honoured for donating blood for 25 years.
Thodupuzha Blood bank secretary Dr Vivek conducted awareness class.
NSS programme officer Merlin Alex delivered felicitations.
National Voluntary Blood Donation Day is observed on October 1 to create awareness about the importance of blood donation. The day was first observed in 1975 by the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology.
