Kochi: A total of 139 personalities including prolific Malayalam novelist, screenplay writer, film director
late M T Vasudevan Nair, late folk singer Sharda Sinha, hockey player P R Sreejesh will be conferred with the Padma awards.
This was announced on the eve of the 76th Republic Day on Saturday.
Folk singer late Sharda Sinha and Nair will be conferred with the Padma Vibhushan award posthumously. Sreejesh will be conferred with the Padma Bhushan award.
Seven people have been chosen for the Padma Vibhushan, while 19 people for the Padma Bhushan. A total of 113 people will be conferred with the Padma Shri.
Former Bihar deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, former chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation Osamu Suzuki, ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas, cricketer R Ashwin and singer Arijit Singh, are some of the other notable persons who will receive the Padma awards.
