Kochi: Malayalam actors Prithviraj Sukumaran and Dulquer Salmaan’s houses were raided by the Customs department on Tuesday in connection with a nationwide probe into smuggling of luxury vehicles from Bhutan, media reports said.
The operation, Numkoor, (vehicle in Bhutanese) is carried out as part of a probe against a network allegedly involved in illegal imports and tax evasion.
Thirty locations including Kochi, Kozhikode, and Malappuram, are being searched.
The probe started based on intel reports of smuggling of auctioned vehicles decommissioned by Bhutan Army into India illegally exploiting loopholes in Indo-Bhutan trade rules.
The authorities are inspecting the homes of businessmen in Kalamassery and car dealers in Malappuram and Kozhikode, the reports said.
