Kochi:Hassan Kutty (alias) Kabeer, 45, of Kollam was convicted for kidnaping and raping a two m-year old infant at Thiruvananthapuram on February 19, 2024, media reports said.
Thiruvananthapuram Additional District and Sessions (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) delivered the verdict.
The final verdict will be delivered on October 3.
Kabeer abducted the infant, daughter of migrant workers, was sleeping on the roadside.
Kabeer dumped the infant in a bush near the railway line.
The child was traced on the same night in an unconscious condition and was hospitalised.
Police used CCTV visuals to trace Kabeer who was working at a roadside food joint at Aluva in Ernakulam. Kabeer went to Palani town where he tonsured his head and returned to Kollam where he was nabbed from a wine shop. Kabeer’s hair recovered from the infant’s cloth and evidence collected from the scene of crime helped the prosecution to prove the case.
The prosecution examined 41 witnesses, 62 materials and 11 evidence materials. Kabeer is facing many charges including POCSO.
Petta police station Station House Officer Sreejith submitted the chargesheet. The investigation was conducted under the supervision of Thiruvananthapuram DCP Nidhin Raj. Kattayikonam Ajith Prasad appeared for prosecution.
