Kochi: Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi is likely to visit India soon, India Today reports said.
It would be the first high-level meeting between Kabul and New Delhi since the Taliban came to power in August 2021.
India has focused on humanitarian assistance as New Delhi is against terrorism and wants to ensure rights of women and minorities in the Islamic nation.
As Muttaqi is under UN Security Council sanctions, he requires special exemptions for traveling abroad. The Taliban government has not gained official recognition on the globally.
Some countries like India have maintained warm ties.
Russia became the first nation to officially recognise the Taliban regime a few months back.
India had invested heavily in infrastructure, schools, and healthcare during the previous regime.
India withdrew its diplomats and citizens after the regime change. India reopened a “technical mission” in Kabul in 2022 to oversee humanitarian aid distribution and keep minimal diplomatic presence.
