Kochi: LDF government in Kerala on Monday revoked ten conditions imposed for increasing the honorarium for ASHA workers who are agitating for over 36 days in support of their demands in Thiruvananthapuram.
Thousands of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) intensified their stir by picketing the Secretariat on Monday.
The government’s decision is one of the demands of the striking workers.
Stern conditions like making it mandatory to attend meetings to qualify for honorarium has been frozen.
Meanwhile, the striking workers have welcomed the government’s move. But they have refused to call off the strike unless all of their demands were met.
Led by the Kerala ASHA Health Workers Association (KAHWA), the demonstration demanded an increase in honorarium and retirement benefits, among others.
In a move to dilute the agitation, the government organised training programs in many districts making it mandatory for ASHA workers to attend it.
The Kerala ASHA Workers’ Association (KAHWA) began a sit-in protest in Thiruvananthapuram on February 10 seeking to clear pending dues, increasing the honorarium from Rs 7,000 to Rs 21,000, and retirement benefits of Rs 5 lakh.
