Kochi: The BJP has condemned the arrest of Kerala nuns under the Anti Conversion Act of 2006 brought by the Congress Government in Chhattisgarh where the Saffron party is
working hard to secure the release of the nuns.
Rejecting Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s claims on the arrest, the BJP asserted that the nuns were not involved in any human trafficking or forced conversion.
Kerala leaders Anoop Antony and Shone George met the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and sought a fair and speedy legal process.
“There was a lot of ambiguity, but after talking to the CM we have clarity on the issue,” Anoop told the New Indian Express.
On charges of Bajrang Dal, mistreating the nuns, he said “If they acted unjustly, they will be held accountable,” he said.
BJP state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar told reporters in Delhi that the party will make all efforts to secure the release of the nuns.
“…Party state general secretary Anoop Antony is coordinating with the authorities in Chhattisgarh,” he said.
“These are two nuns from the Syro-Malabar Church. They were accompanying three adult women who were going to get jobs. We have made it very clear to the Chhattisgarh government that they were not involved in either trafficking or conversion,” he said.
“We are convinced that the allegations of conversion against the Malayali nuns are not true,” he said, adding he had spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and clarified every aspect of the case.
