Kochi: A stampede in Maha Kumbh on Wednesday has led to death of a few persons and injuries to some, even as the Uttar Pradesh government has not divulged the toll, media reports said.
The incident took place near a crowded Sangam during the Mauni Amavasya holy dip in Mahakumbh Nagar in Prayagraj in the early hours of Wednesday.
Reports quoting UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s media briefing on the incident, said “a few devotees were seriously injured”.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to the families of the devotees who died in the incident.
In a post on X, Modi described the incident “extremely sad”: “My deepest condolences to the devotees who have lost their loved ones in this”. He wished speedy recovery of all those injured.
