Kochi: Even as India is inching close to launching bullet trains, it has failed to ensure safety of travellers who lodge complaints on Railmadad on issues like excess charge as it happened on board a train to Vaishnodevi, media reports said.
Agents of the blacklisted catering company zeroed in on the passenger who was pulled down from the upper berth and thrashed mercilessly.
The video of the goons hitting the passenger has gone viral showering the passenger with abuses.
Media reports said that the railways terminated the contract with the caterer, but there are no reports of railways taking legal action against the accused.
An X user who shared the video claimed the incident took place on Somnath Jabalpur Express (Train No. 11463) and criticised the current grievance redressal system: “… Complaints should be verified by a third party and refunds processed directly without putting passengers at risk.”
Another user said: “You can’t make the customer deal with the contractor directly. IRCTC avoids accountability while contractors behave like thugs.”
There are allegations over the railway officials not ensuring functioning of RO drinking water facility in many stations including in stations in Kerala forcing travellers to buy bottled water.
Misbehavior of ticketing staff, parcel office staff and porters, buggy operators are common with railway officials turning a blind eye to it.
Dog menace, alms seekers, theft and the like are common in railway station even as the railways is busy to launch Bullet train.
