Kochi: Six persons from Tamil Nadu were arrested in Malappuram for allegedly trafficking a nine month old infant to a woman for Rs.1.5 lakh, Asianet reported
The baby’s mother Keerthana, step father Siva, buyer Aadi Lakshmi, intermediaries Senthil and Prema Latha were arrested.
The buyer told Police that she bought the infant for adoption.
The actual price demanded by the accused was Rs 3 lakh which was brought down to Rs.1.5 lakh after bargaining.
The infant’s mother and stepfather were from Salem and were living in a rented house in Tirur.
The child’s father was Keerthana’s first husband.
The matter was brought to the notice of police by the couple’s neighbors who grew suspicious after finding the infant missing.
The child is under safe care.
