Court notice to Sonia

Kochi: Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and others were sent notices by a Delhi court on a plea challenging the verdict of another court refusing to book her for illegally voting in the 1980 election, Times of India reported.
The Sessions Court of Rouse Avenue Courts sent notices to Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Police on a criminal revision plea filed by one Vikas Tripathi challenging the
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) verdict on September 11 rejecting Vikas’ prayer to book Gandhi for voting in the New Delhi Parliamentary constituency in 1980 before becoming a citizen in 1983.
The petitioner accused her of forgery and cheating for adding her name in the 1980 voter list.
The petitioner submitted that “certain documents must have been forged and falsified to get the name in the electoral roll of 1980.” Her name was later deleted and then re-entered in 1983 on the basis of an application filed in January 1983, both instances, he alleged.
The ACJM observed that questions of citizenship and electoral rolls fall exclusively within the jurisdiction of the Centre and the Election Commission of India, and cannot be adjudicated through a criminal complaint. The matter will be further heard on January 6.
