Kochi: A CPM Councillor P P Rajesh was arrested for snatching a gold chain from an elderly housewife in Koothuparambu Kannur, media reports said.
The crime happened last Thursday when the 77-year-old woman Janaki was alone and busy in the kitchen.
A person rushed through the open main door into the kitchen wearing a helmet and snatched the chain from her neck.
She raised an alarm. By the time people crowded up, the chain snatcher got away.
Police scanned CCTV visuals to zero in on Rajesh tracking his two-wheeler.
Rajesh has admitted to committing the crime. The one sovereign gold chain has been retrieved from him.
Ironically, Rajesh, who has studied only upto ninth standard, works as a security guard.
