Kochi: Seventeen people were killed in a massive fire in a building near Charminar in Hyderabad this morning.
While the cause of the fire is still being investigated, a short circuit is suspected to have triggered the blaze.
The area has decades old jewellery shops located in a congested manner.
The bodies have been sent to hospitals.
The Prime Minister’s office expressed deep anguish over the tragedy.
“An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured will be given Rs. 50,000,” the PMO said in a post on X.
