Kochi: Auctioning of a brand new Mahindra Thar by Guruvayur temple on Saturday ended up in controversy with the temple authorities mulling to re conduct the bidding.
Bahrain based NRI businessman Amal Mohammad Ali of Edappally in Ernakulam had won the auction by bidding it for Rs 15,10,000, media reports said.
Amal’s friend Subhash Pannicker participated in the bidding on behalf of Amal by depositing Rs 40,000 earnest money deposit, media reports said.
The Dewaswom Board Chairman K B Mohandas told reporters that the governing council will take a final decision on the matter on December 21, the reports said.
The administration is of the opinion that the vehicle could have fetched Rs 21 lakh.
The Thar was donated by the Mahindra group on December 4.
Amal is planning to move court if the temple administration cancelled the bid.
The 2200 cc vehicle was launched by the makers on October 2, 2020.
