HC seeks probe on gold drop in Sabarimala

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has ordered an inquiry into the drop in quantity of gold by over four kilograms in the gilted plates of Dwarapalakas at the Sabarimala temple, according to Live Law.
A division bench suo motu ordered TDB Chief Vigilance and Security Officer, a Superintendent of Police, to conduct a probe and file a report within three weeks.
The court noted that the weight of plates had come down from 42.8 kg in 2019 to 38.258 kg when it was handed over to the Chennai-based firm for the work TDB managing the temple.
There was a decrease of 4.541 kg weight in the plate when it was reinstalled in 2019. The weight was not recorded by the TDB while it was restored at the temple in 2019. No one from TDB went to Chennai while it was being taken for re-plating.
The controversy began when TDB removed the gold-plated copper plates for gold plating in 2019 without prior intimation or approval from the Special Commissioner or the Court, according to Live Law.
The plates showed defects within just six years after their instalation in 1999 with a 40-year warranty.
