Chasing a target of 277 runs, India scored 281 for five in 48.4 overs in the first of the three match ODI series.
Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad
played splendid innings laying the foundation for the victory.
Gill made 74 and Gaikwad 71.
Suryakumar Yadav, 50, and K L Rahul, 58, were the other major contributors.
For Australia, Zampa took 2 wickets, while Abbot and Cummins claimed one each.
Earlier, losing the toss Australia made 276 runs after being put into bat.
Warner made 52, Inglis 45 and Smith 41.
Mohammad Shami took five wickets.
