Kochi: Congress-led INDIA bloc on Tuesday announced Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy as its nominee for the Vice-President elections, media reports said.
All the opposition parties agreed on the candidature of Reddy, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge told in a press conference in New Delhi.
Kharge said Reddy was a consistent and courageous champion of social, economic and political justice.
Justice Reddy served as a Supreme Court judge between 2007 and 2011.
He served as Goa’s first Lokayukta and Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court. Reddy graduated in law from Osmania University. He became an additional judge in Andhra Pradesh High Court in 1993.
The BJP-led NDA has fielded Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan as Vice President nominee.
The election is scheduled for September 9 and the last date to file nomination is on August 21.
