Kochi: Veteran actor Innocent has not only left hundreds of films for people to watch and forget their worries but has become a beacon to those battling cancer. He never appeared depressed, worried, or scared over the disease which surrendered before him for the last decade. After recovering from the disease, he would share the experiences he had encountered during his fight against the disease. These are invaluable encouragement to people suffering from the disease.
There are many interviews of Innocent during which he made it appear that cancer was not a threat to anyone and all that was needed was the confidence, will, and determination to encounter it. As if destined by fate, he was treated by his schoolmate Dr Gangadharan from Irinjalakuda. Dr. Gangadharan has said on record that the doctors were surprised over the way Innocent took it when it was confirmed that he was suffering from it.
At a time when people are reluctant to disclose their disease, Innocent had no inhibition in telling society that he was infected with it, Dr. Gangadharan said during an interview. Innocent has said that he had consoled a cancer-infected lady doctor who became emotional while discussing her disease. The actor had condemned some religious leaders spreading superstition about the disease.
Innocent also cautioned people against falling prey to suggestions to use alternative natural medicine to treat cancer. Besides this, Innocent has become a role model to those who were school dropouts and struggling to do something in their lives. Innocent, who was a school dropout, tried his luck in business, politics, and films. He faced failures but refused to budge until success was in his footsteps. His popularity as an actor helped him to become a Parliamentarian.
