Kochi: Israeli forces are preparing to conquer Gaza City while it has suggested Palestinians relocate to the south where Tel Aviv is providing “most generous humanitarian aid”, BBC reported.
In a post on X on Wednesday, the military’s Arabic spokesman Avichay Adraee said families relocating to the south would “receive the most generous humanitarian aid”.
While Israeli tanks pushed into Gaza City overnight, residents fled to other parts of the city.
The US President Donald Trump is likely to chair a meeting on a post-war vision for Gaza at the White House.
The UN and non-governmental organisations have warned Israel about the “horrific humanitarian impact” of its action.
Bombardment continued in Gaza City’s Shejaiya, Zeitoun and Sabra districts.
The Israeli military said on Wednesday that its troops had eliminated a “terrorist cell” and located a weapons storage facility.
Israel started the conquest after indirect talks with Hamas on a ceasefire and hostage release deal broke down last month even as Prime Minister Netanyahu is facing international and domestic pressure.
Protesters gathered in Tel Aviv on Tuesday demanding a ceasefire deal to bring home the Israeli 50 hostages held captive by Hamas.
The US is working on “a very comprehensive plan” for post-war Gaza. Israel launched a campaign in Gaza after the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, killed 1,200 people while 251 others were taken hostage.
Almost 62,900 people have been killed in Gaza since then, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
