Kochi: Dr Niji Justin of Congress was on Friday sworn in as the Mayor of Thrissur municipal Corporation amidst fight over differences over the election, media reports said.
The decision over the election was taken by the party after a marathon deliberation from morning.
Laly James, Niji Justin and Subi Babu were the front runners for the post.
Laly James was almost certain to become President when the District Congress Committee president announced the name of Justin.
Miffed over missing the bus, Laly burst out against the Congress over sidelining her. She levelled serious allegations against the party saying the post of Mayor was sold by Congress.
In the midst of the controversy there was speculation over Dr Justin skipping the voting process.
Two independent councillors joined Laly in voting for the new administration.
She alleged that Justin and husband had met top Congress leaders with money. Laly alleged that she was sidelined for not paying money.
She claimed to have the support of a majority of councillors.
Congress had won the local bodies poll to Thrissur Municipal Corporation.
