Kochi : At least 600 people were killed and 1,500 injured as an earthquake of a magnitude of 6 struck eastern Afghanistan bordering Pakistan just before midnight local time, media reports said.
Homes made of mud and wood collapsed as helicopters were sent in to evacuate the injured.
There are reports of aftershocks impacting neighbouring Pakistan and as far away as India.
The quake hit at a depth of 8km (5 miles.
