King Cobra in Sabarimala

Kochi: A king cobra was caught from the hill shrine of Sabarimala in Pattanamthitta district of Kerala, media reports said.
The forest department has no history of catching a king cobra in the premises of the abode of Lord Ayyappa in the past, the reports said.
A king cobra was caught in Pamba, which is the gateway of the foothills.
It was caught from near the holy pond “bhasmakulam’ close to the sanctum sanctorum on Sunday morning.
The forest department had intensified surveillance in the area after a snake was seen in the area the other day.
The snake was released into the dense forest.
As many as 243 snakes have been caught near the sanctum sanctorum and Marakkoottam during the current pilgrimage season since November 15, 2024.
The shrine is located in the Periyar Tiger Reserve which in the districts of Idukki and Pathanamthitta in Kerala. The protected area covers 925 square kms of which an area of 305 square kms was declared as the Periyar National Park in 1982.
