Kochi: Train services through Kottayam will be regulated from August 16 to September 13 for demolition of a about seven decades old footbridge in the railway station, Manorama reported.
The preliminary phase of work is scheduled from August 16 to 31. The bridge was constructed in 1956 when the station came into existence for metre gauge traffic.
The bridge was closed for the public on the eve of Independence day on August 14.
The dismantling will be done in phases at night to minimise disruption to train services.
Kottayam–Nilambur Express will start from Ettumanoor instead of Kottayam on August 16, 17, 19, 23 and 29.
Mangaluru–Thiruvananthapuram North Special Train No 06164 will have a 30-minute halt on August 26.
