Lawyers protest against judge

Kochi: A large number of lawyers of Kerala High Court lawyers have sought an apology from a judge for his alleged objectionable behaviour with a female lawyer whose husband passed away some days back, media reports said.
The incident occurred on Thursday when the lawyer sought more time from the Court to change vakalath due to the death of her husband who was fighting a case.
An urgent general body meeting of the Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association (KHCAA) passed a resolution accusing the judge of reacting rudely at the lawyer’s request.
The KHCAA called an urgent general body meeting in which the lawyers decided to gather en-masse in Justice Badharudeen’s court to demand an apology.
Bar and Bench has confirmed that lawyers rejected the judge’s offer to apologise in his chambers and not in open court.
The lawyers subsequently decided to boycott Justice Badharudeen’s court.
Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar heard the lawyers’ grievances earlier and agreed to the judge on the matter.
In a similar incident last year, the KHCAA and the Bar Council of Kerala wrote to the Chief Justice claiming that the judge’s interactions with the Bar were humiliating.
This was following the judge refusing
lawyer Jayakumar Namboodiri TV plea to adjourn a case due to health issue.
The Bar and Bench and the KHCAA had appealed to the Chief Justice to make video recording of proceedings in all courtrooms mandatory, the reports said.
