Kochi: The LuLu Group, which has good ties with the Left parties, is feeling the heat of protest by the CPM which is disputing allotment of land to the group at a strategic point “illegally”, media reports said.
Demanding cancellation of the allotment, they sought a CBI probe into the ‘illegal land allotment’ to the UAE based multinational conglomerate company that operates a chain of hypermarkets.
The CPM district secretary M Jaggunaidu opposed allotment of land near R K Beach, where the Indian Navy organises operational demonstrations with VVIPs.
The 13.74 acres of land, valued at around ₹3,000 crore, was allotted to the MNC at ₹1.50 per square yard, he alleged and demanded the centre order a CBI inquiry into the issues.
The CPI(M) would intensify agitation if the land allotment was not cancelled, he warned.
CPM district secretariat member P Mani called upon the people to oppose the ‘illegal’ land allotments to corporate groups and MNCs.
