Kochi: Kochi Metro, which redefined urban transportation by revolutionising travelling comfort, is going to spread its wings with increasing its pinkline network suburban Kakkanad.
The service from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium stop to Kakkanad will be partially opened by June next year by adding five stations, albeit three months behind schedule, Mathrubhumi reported.
Work on 825 foundation piles against a total of 1,601 piles have been completed for the viaduct and stations. Of these, 603 piles are for the viaduct and 222 for stations.
A total of 1,601 piles are for the viaduct and 360 for stations. Piling works have already been finished at Alinchuvadu, Vazhakkala, CSEZ, Palarivattom, KINFRA, Chembumukku, and Civil Station.
Out of the 500 girders required, work on 58 U-girders and 24 of the 518 I-girders have beencompleted. Once a one-kilometer stretch of the viaduct across the central road is completed, track installation will begin.
The construction of the final section comprising Civil Station Junction, Cochin SEZ, Chittethukara, KINFRA, and Infopark, is expected to be completed by December 2026 and services are scheduled to begin by December 31, 2026.
The Pink Line will cover a stretch of 11.2 kilometers from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to Kakkanad. The estimated cost of construction for this phase is ₹1,957 crore.
