MGNNREGA in new avtar

Kochi: The BJP-led government’s move to bring Viksit Bharat Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, 2025, or G Ram G Bill to replace Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act was strongly opposed by the Opposition in Parliament, NDTV reported.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra demanded withdrawal of the new Bill which weakens the law.
The act brought in 2005 provides 100 days of employment in a year to the poorest of the poor in this country,” she said.
The Congress staged a protest on the Parliament premises, holding up photographs of Mahatma Gandhi.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan sought permission to introduce the Bill in Lok Sabha.
Congress leadèr Shashi Tharoor, too, opposed the Bill, saying it is “immoral” to remove Mahatma Gandhi’s name.
Government sources argue that the Bill is aligned with its Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
BJP leader and former Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the Congress’s problem is that the Bill is named after Lord Ram. “They cannot tolerate the inclusion of Lord Ram’s name, which is why they are creating such a fuss.”
