Kochi: A BJP leader was hacked to death within hours of killing a SDPI leader in Alappuzha district in the wee hours of Sunday.
The OBC Morcha state secretary Ranjit Sreenivasan, 40, was attacked in front of his family within 12 hours of killing K S Shaan, 38, media reports said.
The assailants barged into his house at Vellakinar in Zachariah Bazar and hacked him before his wife and mother, media reports said.
Shaan was attacked by at least four persons whose car hit the two wheeler on which he was traveling. He was hacked by them at Mannancherry inflicting multiple injuries on Shaan. He was taken to a private hospital in Ernakulam.
A lawyer by profession, Sreenivasan was a candidate in the last assembly elections.
Preliminary investigation showed it as political murders, police said.
Kerala has witnessed 300 political murders since 1969 to 2017. Most of the victims were left leaders and activists and RSS/BJP workers.
In the last 17 years 85 CPM, 65 RSS/BJP, 11 Congress, 11 Muslim league were killed. Curfew has been imposed in the district for Sunday and Monday.
