Kochi: In a major relief to air travellers, the Centre has given nod to set up a railway station near Cochin International Airport Ltd at Nedumbassery near here.
The Railway Board approved the construction of the station fulfilling a long-pending demand, Union Minister George Kurian’s office said in a statement on Wednesday, the Economic Times reported.
It said that the approval marks a major step towards improving rail connectivity to the airport.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had assured Kurian
that the project would be fast-tracked.
The Railway Minister had personally identified the proposed site for the station during his visit to Kerala last year, the statement said.
Kurian thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vaishnaw for their support for the project.
