Kochi: Anti Corona drug, Covaxin, has been recommended for use among children above two years of age during emergency situations, Subject Expert Committee on Covid-19 has said. The vaccine can be given during emergency situations for children from two years and 18 years, media reports said. The trial data of phase two and phase three
of Covaxin on children in the age group has been submitted to the Drugs and Comptroller General of India (DCGI) by Bharat Biotech based in Hyderabad.
India has become the first country to give approval for administering Covid-19 vaccine in Children starting from 2 to 18 years of age.
The indigenous vaccine is administered in two doses, with a gap of 20 days between the first and second dose. The WHO has not given permission for emergency use authorisation to Covaxin. All documents required for the listing to the WHO were submitted to WHO.
Permission was granted for emergency use ZyCov-D’s Covid-19 vaccine developed by
Zydus Cadila for children between 12 and 18 years.
It is the first DNA vaccine to be approved in the world.
