Kochi: The nun, who accused Bishop Franco Mullackkal of raping her multiple times, flayed the Left front government of not providing legal help to challenge the court verdict acquitting the Bishop.
Speaking to Asianet News on Good morning Kerala on Saturday, the nun said the financial condition of her and other nuns who supported her was deplorable for the last eight years.
They were earning their living by taking up tailoring work.
Despite being sexually abused for 13 times, the Left government had overlooked her plea to arrange a special prosecutor for her.
She said the government’s stand has left the nuns immobilized.
She was excommunicated by the Church after she disclosed about sexual abuse against her.
She accused Bishop Franco Mullackkal of hoisting fake cases against her and her family and the nuns.
She said knew the experience of many who had quit the convent.
In June 2018, the nun filed a police complaint against the Bishop Franco Mullackkal of raping her 13 times between 2014 and 2016 at St. Francis Mission Home, Kuravilangad.
The Bishop too lodged a counter complaint accusing her of trying to black mail him for taking disciplinary action against her. Mulakkal’s request for a leave of absence from 20 September 2018 was accepted by the Church.
On 21 September 2018, the Kerala police arrested Franco who was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days until 20 October 2018. The Kerala High Court rejected the bishop’s first application for bail, citing prima facie evidence in the case.
The trial began in November 2019. On 14 January 2022, the trial Court acquitted him.
