Oppn move against Speaker

Kochi:The Opposition parties led by the Congress on Tuesday moved a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accusing him of not allowing Lok Sabha Leader Rahul Gandhi to speak during the debate on the Motions of Thanks to the President’s address.
The motion accused the Speaker of acting in a partisan manner.
Chief Whip of Congress in the Lok Sabha Kodikunnil Suresh and party Whip Mohammed Jawed Ahmed handed over the notice to the Secretary-General Utpal Kumar Singh, The Hindu reported.
After submitting the motion, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said the concern has been that the LOP hasn’t been allowed to speak on numerous occasions.
The resolution seeking removal of Birla has 119 signatures, including T.R. Baalu of DMK, and Dimple Yadav of SP even as members of Trinamool Congress and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi are not signatories.
