Plane crash kills 241

Kochi: A total of 241 on board a London bound Air India plane were killed while one survived after a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed soon after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on Thursday, media reports said. 

The flight crashed into a hostel of B J Medical College. The passengers included 217 adults, 11 children and two infants.

The ill-fated plane flew for the first time in 2013 and was delivered to Air India in January 2014, an online site Flightradar24 said.

It was one of the most modern passenger aircraft in service. The aircraft departed at 1.39 p.m. (0809 GMT) from runway 23 and raised a distress alarm following which there was no response from the aircraft.
Ahmedabad is a major city in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat.

The survivor was identified as Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40,  a British national visiting family in India.

He was travelling back to the UK with his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
