Relief for Nimisha

Kochi: In a major development, Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, 37, escaped the gallows as her death sentence issued by a Shariat court in Yemen was overturned, Times of India reported.
The report quoted a statement from the office of Indian Grand Mufti Kanthapuram A P Abubakker Musliyar said.
“The death sentence of Nimisha Priya, which was previously suspended, has been overturned,” the report said.
“A high-level meeting held in Sanaa decided to completely cancel the death sentence that was temporarily suspended earlier,” it said.
The Shariat court had convicted Nimisha to death for killing her Yemeni business partner Talal Abdo Mahdi.
A clinic was set up in 2015 by Nimisha and Talal whom she accused of seizing her passport,
extorting money, abusing her and faking a marriage with her.
Hailing from Kollengode in Palakkad, Nimisha has been on death row in Yemen’s Central prison since 2018, for the murder in 2017.
