Kochi: An injured tiger that was on prowl in the human inhabited area in Vandiperiyar in Idukki district died due to injuries suffered due to bullets fired at it when it tried to attack the rescue mission on Monday, Asianet reported.
The team comprising Vets fired the first tranquilizer which failed to send it to deep sedation.
When the mission was trying to fire the second round at Grambi, the tiger woke up and charged towards the mission.
The tiger was taken to the nearby tiger care centre at Thekkady coming under Periyar Tiger Reserve.
The Forest staff and health team had zeroed in on the tiger in Grambi using drones and other gadgets on Sunday. The tiger had strayed into human inhabited colonies from Periyar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary (PNP) which is a protected area located in the districts of Idukki and Pathanamthitta in Kerala.
The sanctuary is 925 square km in size.
It was declared as the Periyar National Park in 1982. The park is a repository of rare, endemic, and endangered flora and fauna and forms the major watershed of rivers Periyar and the Pamba.
