Kochi: Dismissing a plea seeking a media gag on reports related to Nimisha Priya, senteced to death in Yemen, the Supreme Court on Monday asked do you want nobody should say anything to media?, Manorama reported.
The nurse from Palakkad in Kerala was given capital punishment for killing her Yemen native business partner Talal Abdo Mahdi.
The petitioner K A Paul prayed to the Apex Court to prevent publishing of unverified reports about Nimisha. Paul said Nimisha had sought legal intervention to enforce a complete media gag order in the case. Paul said negotiations were going on in the matter and some individuals were making false statements.
The plea also sought a direction to the Centre to take diplomatic measures with Yemen to secure commutation of the death penalty into life imprisonment.The 38-year-old nurse from Palakkad was convicted of murdering her Yemeni business partner in 2017.
Nimisha Priya was convicted to death penalty in 2017. Her final appeal was rejected in 2023. She is imprisoned in a jail in the Yemen capital Sana’a.
