Kochi: In a major boost to India’s diplomacy, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) at Tianjin for the first time condemned the Pahalgam terror attack on Monday, media reports said.
“The Member States strongly condemn the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April,” the declaration said.
The member nations expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and the injured. They underscored that the perpetrators, organisers, and sponsors of such attacks must be brought to justice. The SCO members stressed the inadmissibility of any attempts to use terrorist, separatist, or extremist groups for mercenary purposes.
About two months back India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh refused to sign the SCO joint statement due to the omission of the Pahalgam terror attack.
The inclusion of the condemnation at the Tianjin summit is widely seen as a recognition of India’s firm and proactive stance against terrorism.
