Kochi: Five persons were arrested in connection with the car bomb blast at Ukkadam in Coimbatore the other day.
Feroz Ismael, Nawaz Ismael, Mohammad Dhalha, Mohammad Riyas and Mohammad Azharuddin hailing from Ukkadam were those arrested in connection with the blast near Kottamedu Sangameswaran temple.
The investigation teams have got information about their alleged involvement in the blast. The investigation teams carried out the arrests based on the data collected from the CCTV near the temple.
The clippings show four persons loading articles inside the car. Jamesh Mubin who was killed in the blast was questioned by the NIA in connection with a terror case in 2009. Relatives of 1998 serial bomb blast accused including the son of Al Umma chief Basha’s brother Thalka were questioned.
Coimbatore serial bomb blasts on February, 14, 1998, killed 58 and injured 200.
The attack was a retribution to the 1997 Coimbatore riots that killed 18 Muslims and 2 Hindus.
The 1997 attack was triggered due to Al Ummah plotting the murder of a cop Selvaraj.
The 1998 blasts mainly aimed at senior BJP leader L K Advani at an election meeting.
A judicial committee probe confirmed Al Ummah’s role in the attacks following which Basha and 12 others were given life sentence.
Imam Ali and four others, suspected to be involved in the blasts were killed in a police encounter in Bangalore in September in 2002.
