Kochi: Septuagenarian Muslim women’s rights activist V P Suhara who sat on a fast seeking equality for Muslim women was arrested and released on police bail in New Delhi on Sunday, media reports said
She was arrested for breaching the time allotted for her to hold the protest, the reports said.
She suspended her protest after Union Minister Suresh Gopi assured her that he would bring the matter before the notice of the central government.
President of Nisa, a progressive Kerala based Muslim women’s forum, Suhara had launched an indefinite fast in front of Jantar Mantar seeking to end discrimination against women in muslim community on issues including inheritance rights.
She had been fighting a solo battle for several years now in support of her demands.
