Kochi: Social media platform, Telegram, Chief Executive Officer Pavel Durov was arrested by French police in Paris under a warrant for offenses related to the application, media reports said.
The 39-year-old was detained after his private jet landed at Le Bourget Airport on charges of allowing alleged criminal activities happening through the application, the reports said.
Telegram, which is popular in Russia, Ukraine and former Soviet Union states, was banned in Russia in 2018 for Durov’s refusal to share data. The ban was reversed in 2021.
Telegram is ranked second after Facebook.After founding Telegram in 2013, Durov left Russia in 2014 after a dispute with the government.
