Tharoor effect hits Congress

Kochi: Social media speculation over the possibility of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, MP, migrating to other fronts has shaken his party which is yet to recover from a series of defeats suffered by it.
With the Kerala assembly elections approaching fast, the BJP is busy exploring all possibilities of luring talented leaders and Tharoor is one such person.
The BJP is on a hunt to enrol more leaders from other parties as part of its plan to establish its hold in Kerala.
Tharoor knows he has nothing to gain by remaining in the Congress which made him what he is today.
Losing Tharoor will be a huge blow to the grand old party. Tharoor knows he can only benefit by joining the saffron party which is going stronger. But it remains to be seen how much importance he would give to political morality.
Joining a front led by the CPM will be suicidal for Tharoor as it will not suit him ideologically. So is the case with the BJP.
Tharoor’s recent article praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Left government in Kerala led to the speculation of Tharoor’s future plans.
The bitter factionalism in the Kerala unit of the Congress offers little scope for Tharoor to grow in the party at national level or state level.
Meanwhile, Tharoor met former Congress chief and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday. Congress general secretary K C Venugopal said the controversy surrounding Tharoor’s article was a “closed chapter”.
