Kochi: Disregarding the caveat issued by the Congress, Shashi Tharoor, MP, has said India was uniquely placed to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Admitting that he was wrong in opposing India’s stand on Ukraine-Russia conflict in February 2022, Tharoor said “India has actually a Prime Minister who can hug both the president of Ukraine and the president in Moscow…,”.
Tharoor admitted that he was left with “an egg on his face” in opposing India’s stance when the Russia-Ukraine war broke out. The country is now in a position where it can make a difference to lasting peace, he said during an interactive session at the Raisina Dialogue in Delhi.
The BJP in Kerala has interpreted Tharoor’s remarks as a praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “diplomatic acumen”.
He said his criticism was based on the “well-known grounds that there was a violation of the UN charter.
