Kochi: In a major move, the Centre
has opened two areas near the strategic Chang Chenmo sector north of Pangong lake in Ladakh for tourists, media reports said.
Amidst continuing border standoff with China, the Union Home Ministry issued a September 14 circular allowing foreign tourists to stay overnight in Hanle, 254 km east of Leh, for stargazing. The government has opened for adventure tourism the 18,314-feet-high Marsemik La (pass in Ladakhi), 184 kms east of Leh, the reports said.
It is the portal to the strategic sector leading to the disputed areas of the line of actual control with China. Nod has been given for trekking through Sko valley which is made beautiful by pasturelands and lakes.
The starting point of trekking is Yurgo village near the western tip of the Pangong lake.
This will trigger tourism providing
livelihood opportunities for the inhabitants.
The move is a sign of government’s determination to establish its supremacy in forward areas through tourism.
The pastureland of Tsogtsalo is another location touted to come in tourism map. The region is close to the merging point of Rimdi Chu and Chang Chenmo rivers.
This is close to the point where a Memorial stands in memory of 10 CRPF jawans martyred by the Chinese in 1959 during a patrol.
The inner line permit system for Indians was scrapped in August 2021.
