Unrest in Nepal

Kochi: Six people were reportedly killed in police firing as protesters took to streets in cities including Kathmandu on Monday against corruption and ban on social media platforms, the Hindu reported.
The injured protesters, mostly tech-savvy Generation Z, ( Gen Z) were taken to the hospital where six died. The hospital was flooded with the injured.
The protesters took to streets in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Butwal, Dharan, Ghorahi. They marched towards Nepal’s federal parliament building in New Baneshwor and entered the parliament premises breaking the police cordon raising slogans against Prime Minister K P Sharma ‘Oli’, and demanding he “leave the country.”
A curfew was enforced from 1 pm to 10 p.m. in several areas, including Baneshwor, Shital Niwas (the President’s residence),.Movement, gatherings, demonstrations, or encirclement of these areas are strictly prohibited,” said Kathmandu Chief District Officer Chhabilal Rijal.
The government on Thursday imposed a sweeping ban on more than two dozen platforms, including X, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah was among the first to publicly support the protest. Estimates suggest that around 2,000 Nepalis leave the country every day.
