Kochi: The US President Donald Trump has signed a ban on travel to the US from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Haiti and Iran from June 9, BBC reported.
Partial travel restrictions have been imposed
on seven countries including Cuba and Venezuela, Burundi, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo and Turkmenistan.
The US said these “common sense restrictions” will “protect Americans from dangerous foreign actors”.
Announcing the ban on social media platform Truth Social, Trump cited the Colorado attack on Jews Sunday.
During Trump’s first term in 2017 he had announced a ban on travel from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US.
The directive is part of an immigration crackdown Trump launched this year at the start of his second term.
“We will not allow people to enter our country who wish to do us harm,” Trump said on X.
During his first term in office, Trump announced a ban on travelers from seven Muslim-majority nations.
Former President Joe Biden, a Democrat who succeeded Trump, repealed that ban on nationals from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen in 2021.
