The accused will have to spend at least 30 years behind the bars
Kochi: City court in Kollam today sentenced Sooraj S Kumar, 28, for double life imprisonment and another 17 years under different sections for killing his wife Uthara, 25, using a snake in May last year. Slapping a fine of Rs 5 lakh, the Additional Sessions Court said that it was the rarest of rare cases.
The court had held him guilty under different sections on October 11. According to the prosecution, Sooraj had killed her in his second attempt as she had survived the first one that happened some days back.
The police had used highly scientific methods to prove the case. Sooraj and Uthra were married in 2018 and the couple has a son. The snake bit her on the night of May 6 and she was found dead in the wee hours of May 7, 2020. The prosecution said that the motive of Sooraj was to get her wealth after getting rid of him.
