Kochi: V Narayanan is the new chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), succeeding S Somanath.
Narayanan, who is the Director of ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), oversees advancements in cryogenic and liquid propulsion technologies.
Narayanan joined ISRO in 1984 and started his career working on solid propulsion systems for Sounding Rockets and the Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle (ASLV) at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC).
He contributed immensely to major missions like the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
He topped MTech in Cryogenic Engineering from IIT Kharagpur.
He got his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the same institution in 2001.
He is a fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Engineers (India), and the Aeronautical Society of India.
also holds memberships in international astronautical bodies and contributes to the governance of engineering institutions like the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST).
