Kochi: Kerala University Registrar Dr K S Anil Kumar was suspended for cancelling a function on June 25 called by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar while DYFI and SFI took out a protest March to Raj Bhavan against the suspension tonight.
The protesters dared water cannon and crossed the barricades placed by the police.
The Vice Chancellor Mohan Kunnummal said that the Registrar was being suspended for alleged violation of University norms.
On the other hand the Registrar justified his decision to cancel the function which, he said, violated university norms by using religious symbols.
Joint Registrar P Harikumar will officiate on his behalf.
The Vice Chancellor noted that the Registrar denied permission for the programme while the Governor was already on stage.
Anil Kumar said that he will approach the court
against his suspension.
Meanwhile, syndicate members of left wing parties condemned the VC’s action against the Registrar.
The All Kerala Private College Teachers’ Association (AKPCTA) protested against the suspension.
The function was organised to mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency declaration.
