Kochi: India won bronze in women’s boxing and has ensured one in men’s wrestling at Tokyo Olympics. Lovlina Borgohain made India proud by fetching the third bronze for the country. Borgohain from Assam went down in the welterweight category 5-0 against reigning world champion Busenaz Sürmeneli of Turkey in the 69kg semi-finals. Lovlina became India’s second woman boxer with an Olympic medal. Mary Kom had won a medal in 2012 London Games.
While Ravi Kumar Dahiya from Haryana guaranteed India another a medal, at the least a silver, by entering the final of the 57 kg wrestling event. Dahiya defeated Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan in the semi-finals. He made an amazing comeback in the last 40 seconds of the match while trailing by nine points to two.
Dahiya had thrashed Tigreros Urbano of Colombia to enter quarter-finals where he defeated Georgy Vanglov to sail into the semi-finals. Deepak Punia lost in semi-finals of 86 kg wrestling and will contest for bronze tomorrow.
Neeraj Chopra qualified for the men’s javelin throw finals with a throw of 86.65m. as group topper in the qualifier.
