100th year of Gandhi- Nambiathiri talks

Kochi: Success of Temple Entry Agitation was key to reformation of Hindu Community by liberating it from the grip of casteist hierarchy by social reformers like Sree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi whose parleys with upper caste envoy at the
Indamthuruthi Mana on March 10, 2025 turns 100 years tomorrow.
The palace, then owned by the Hindu upper caste, is now the headquarters of the toddy tappers’ union belonging to the CPI which is a member of the Left Democratic Front government ruling the state.
The family of the Hindu upper caste, which
was against the temple entry programme, sold it to the CPI in 1964.
The party has not tampered with the structure of the heritage building where Gandhiji held talks with the upper caste group led by Devan Neelakantan Nambiathiri on whose invitation Gandhi reached there to hold talks on March 10, 1925.
As Gandhi was not from the upper caste, a special enclosure was built to accommodate him, while Nambiathiri sat inside the palace for over three years to hold the talks which
remained inconclusive. Gandhi’s suggestions were rejected by the temple custodian. The enclosure still remains as a witness to the historic talks.
CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam will inaugurate the centenary celebration at the mana at 10.30 am on March 10.
Party district secretary V B Binu will preside. Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala will deliver the keynote address.
